La Pietá

La Pietá is comprised of photographs and performances that deal with the shift from childhood to adulthood. Roescheisen plays with the iconography of 14th and 15th century Christian paintings and sculptures with their symbolic translation going far beyond any religious context. The simplified pop and flashy visual approach along with the background of inflatable toys adds to the metaphorical language of a powerful collection of works that deal with identity, femininity, voyeurism, sexual abuse and childhood trauma.
